Commercial space design and 3D visualisation in Madrid
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Everything you need to know before investing in the design of your space. The questions companies ask us before defining their office, retail, 3D rendering or temporary architecture project.
What is a 3D render and what is it used for in an architecture project?
A render is a photorealistic digital image that shows how a space will look before it's built or refurbished. It's generated from a 3D model where geometry, materials, lighting, furniture and finishes are defined with the level of detail the project requires.
But making a good render isn't just modelling and hitting a button. We work like photographers: we design the composition, choose the framing, the camera height and the atmosphere that best tells the story of the space. It's used to make design decisions, present projects to investors and market spaces before they're finished.
What is architectural visualisation and when do I need it?
Architectural visualisation is the 3D visual representation of architecture projects before they're built. It combines modelling, lighting, materials and post-production to show how a building, home or commercial space will look with maximum visual fidelity.
You need it when you want to sell a project before building it (real estate developments), present a design to a client or committee, communicate construction phases, or make decisions about materials and furniture before committing budget. At BLANK we've been doing architectural visualisation for over 20 years for architects, developers and companies.
What is projection mapping on a scale model and why is it so impactful?
It's one of the most spectacular tools we offer. We design your project in 3D and, from that model, we fabricate a real physical scale model using 3D printers and CNC on wood, acrylic or PLA. On that model we project real-time animations showing building uses, layout, construction phases or any information you need to communicate.
The most powerful part is that the same 3D model is reused for everything: renders, 3D video, physical model and projection mapping. It's a complete ecosystem where each piece feeds the next. The result in presentations to investors, committees or trade shows is hard to match. We also do projection mapping on real façades for events.
How much does it cost to refurbish a commercial space?
There's no single figure. The cost of refurbishing a commercial space depends on the square metres, the current state of the space, the chosen finishes, the necessary installations (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) and the level of design customisation.
At BLANK we work with indicative estimates in the initial phase, based on a site visit and a preliminary technical diagnosis. This allows you to assess economic viability before moving on to more detailed phases. What is certain: a project well-defined from the start avoids cost overruns during construction, which is where badly planned budgets get out of hand.
What does a corporate space design project include?
A space design project at BLANK starts with a functional analysis: how your team works, what people flows exist, what image you need to project and what restrictions the space has. From there we develop a concept aligned with your brand identity.
This materialises in layout plans, material and furniture selection, visualisation renders and an executive project so any contractor can build it. We design offices, corporate headquarters, commercial spaces, gyms, showrooms and any environment where people interact with your brand.
What's the difference between a generic render and one made by a design studio?
A generic render is a technical image: it shows the space, the materials and the light, but it doesn't tell a story. It works as documentation, not as a sales tool.
A render made by a design studio is treated like professional photography: composition, framing, atmosphere, visual narrative. We don't use generic furniture libraries; we choose real pieces from specific manufacturers when the project requires it. The difference shows when that render has to convince an investor, market a development or win a competition.
How do you design trade show stands that work commercially?
A trade show stand isn't a shop window, it's a commercial tool with limited square metres and many competitors around it. It has to capture attention from a distance, communicate your value proposition in 3 seconds and facilitate conversation with qualified visitors.
At BLANK we design stands starting from three questions: who do you want to attract, what do you want them to take away, and how will you measure success. From there we work on temporary architecture, lighting, materials, graphics, furniture and production. All coordinated so the stand functions as a strategic point of sale, not as pretty decoration.
What is brand adaptation to physical spaces?
It's translating your corporate identity to the space where you work or where you welcome your clients. It's not about sticking your logo on the wall. It's about ensuring that when someone walks into your office, shop, showroom or stand, they recognise your brand without needing to read any sign.
The colours, the materials, the lighting, the furniture, the signage, the rhythm of the space: everything must respond to the same identity that defines your website, your stationery and your communication. At BLANK we design space as a physical extension of the brand so the client experience is consistent across every touchpoint.
Do you use artificial intelligence in space design?
Yes, but as a tool, not as a substitute for design. We use AI in the idea development phase: generating visual references, exploring concepts, quick tests of atmospheres and styles. It's a thinking tool that accelerates the creative process and helps visualise directions before committing resources.
Once the concept is defined and approved by the client, AI steps aside. From there, the entire project is developed with real technical detail: identity applied to the space, furniture selection, materials, definition of trades and coordination with all the agents involved in the construction. AI helps us think faster. The project is made by us.
What do I need to have ready before starting a space project with BLANK?
What we need to get started is to understand your business and the space: what kind of activity you'll develop, how many people will work or visit, what image you want to project and, if you already have the space, basic plans or measurements. If you're still looking for a space, we also help you assess viability before signing anything.
If you already have ideas, references or a brief of needs, perfect. If not, we build it together in the first meetings. What matters is that you come with a clear decision: that your space needs to be worked on from design and strategy, not from decoration.
Our portfolio and main site are in Spanish, but we work fluently in English. Get in touch and we'll handle everything in your language.
